Importance of Fruits and Vegetables

Fruit and vegetables should be an important part of your daily diet. They contain important vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. They also contain fiber. And help keep you healthy.

According to Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, a diet rich in vegetables and fruits can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, and digestive problems. Eating non-starchy vegetables and fruits may even promote weight loss. Eating fruits and vegetables have a positive effect on blood sugar, which can help keep the appetite in check. Their low glycemic loads prevent blood sugar spikes that can increase hunger. It's always important to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. No single fruit or vegetable provides all of the nutrients you need to be healthy. Eat plenty every day.

Ways to eat more fruits and vegetables every day.

Make fruits and vegetables a daily snack. Have a bowl of berries prepared for a snack. Apples, pears, and bananas are also a great way to cure your sweet tooth and satisfy your appetite. Carrots, broccoli florets, and snow peas, with hummus, are a great way to get in those extra veggies and are a great way to fulfill your cravings between meals.

Try something new. Variety and color are important factors in eating more fruits and veggies. When you're at the store or ordering your instacart, try one to two new fruits and veggies a week. Try new recipes, make creative salads, stir-fries, soups, and more.
